The Harmonic Box è una stanza di meditazione, una finestra aperta su un mondo parallelo, un viaggio verso i confini dell’universo il cui punto di approdo è la nostra coscienza interiore. Varcando l’“entrata”, lo spettatore attraversa la soglia del mondo conosciuto per entrare in uno spazio interamente scolpito dalle vibrazioni sonore che lo abitano, un ambiente immersivo dove il suono diventa architettura, materia e rito.
Per la sua prima personale a The Open Box, Alessandro Sciaraffa (Torino, 1976) porta alcune delle sue opere più emblematiche. Al centro dello spazio troneggia Ti porto il mare (2011) un grande tamburo sospeso sopra la testa del visitatore: al suo interno piccoli granelli di acciaio ondeggiano da un lato all’altro, generando il rumore marino e trasformando l’eco del paesaggio naturale in esperienza tangibile. Accanto all’installazione centrale si erge un Totem (2021), un gong sospeso che dialoga con potenti subwoofer: le basse frequenze mettono in vibrazione il metallo, producendo risonanze spontanee che plasmano lo spazio circostante e coinvolgono il pubblico senza contatto fisico, attraverso la sola energia acustica.
A completare il percorso sono Horizon (2025) e Quadro Dimensionale (2024), due interventi site specific che trasformano l’ambiente in una cassa armonica totale. Ogni elemento concorre a fare dello spazio espositivo un organismo sonoro, in cui la materia si piega all’invisibile potenza delle frequenze.
L’opera di Sciaraffa si inserisce in una tradizione che intreccia arte e scienza, rito e tecnologia, spiritualità e fisica. La sua ricerca si nutre della convinzione che il suono non sia solo percezione uditiva, ma forza primordiale capace di modellare la realtà e incidere sulla coscienza. In questo senso, The Harmonic Box non è semplicemente una mostra, ma un’esperienza che riconfigura il ruolo dello spettatore: da osservatore passivo a corpo risonante, parte integrante dell’opera. L’artista si propone come un moderno sciamano che utilizza mezzi tecnologici per condurre il pubblico in uno stato di ascolto profondo, dove le vibrazioni diventano ponte tra l’interiorità individuale e l’energia universale.

The Harmonic Box is a room of meditation, a window onto a parallel world, a journey towards the confines of the universe, the destination of which is our inner consciousness. Passing through the “entrance”, the viewer crosses the threshold of the known world and enters a space entirely sculpted by the sonic vibrations that inhabit it, an immersive environment in which sound becomes architecture, matter and ritual.
For his first solo show at The Open Box, Alessandro Sciaraffa (Turin, 1976) is presenting several of his most emblematic works. At the centre of the space stands Ti porto il mare (I bring you the sea, 2011): inside a large drum suspended above the visitor’s head, small grains of steel sway from side to side, generating the sound of the sea and transforming the echo of the natural landscape into a tangible experience. Alongside the central installation stands a Totem (2021), a suspended gong interacting with powerful subwoofers: the low frequencies cause the metal to vibrate, producing spontaneous resonances that shape the surrounding space and engage the audience without physical contact, through acoustic energy alone.
Completing this review are Horizon (2025) and Quadro Dimensionale (Dimensional Frame, 2024) two site-specific works that transform the environment into a total sound chamber. Each element contributes to making the exhibition space a sonic organism, in which matter bends to the invisible power of frequencies.
Sciaraffa’s work is part of a tradition in which art and science, ritual and technology, spirituality and physics all intertwine. His research is fuelled by the conviction that sound is not only auditory perception, but a primordial force capable of shaping reality and affecting consciousness. In this sense, The Harmonic Box is more than just an exhibition; it is an experience reconfiguring the role of the viewer: from passive observer to resonant body, an integral part of the work. The artist stands as a modern shaman using technological devices to lead the audience into a state of deep listening, where vibrations become a bridge between individual interiority and universal energy.
