Theoretically every artist would like to leave a trace. Some may be deep and enduring, others superficial and ephemeral. All these traces reinforce their “beingness”.They are fragments of space-time-action.
Valentino Albini (Reggio Callabria, 1959), a professional photographer, has for around 30 years been conducting research into the photographic image – real or potential – decomposing it, dissolving it or annulling it, producing new works that overturn the origin of the image itself. In the series Reappearance Hypothesis (2014) he has used the wrappers of Polaroid films that expired in 2002, heated and then pressed to mix the developing liquid they contain. The still wet negative is separated from the photographic paper and is then impressed on Fabriano paper, transferring liquid colours and forms to the white surface.Through pressure and heat that which is contained in the film package does not create an image following the canonical phases of photographic “development”; matter and material leave their mark, a ghostly impression thanks to the specific action of the artist. Moreover, this re-apparition is generated by a film that has expired, that is almost sterile and never exposed to the light, but the chemical fragments and the physical memories still produce an image. David Reimondo (Genoa, 1973) has for the last four years been continuously creating new "symbols” (graphemes and phonemes).Simplifying, it might be said that he is creating a new language, but in reality the project is in perpetual development; it is the continuous conception of new symbols that his action and the resulting work are concretized, every time in a different way.The installation Laaaoooss is composed of a white sheet of paper on which has been embossed his symbol indicating the concept of “space”, the phoneme for which is in fact Laaaoooss. The trace pressed into the sheet repeats with an irregular cadence the pronunciation of the symbol, thanks to an ingenious digital-sonic device invisible to the observer.Space – like time – is experienced and perceived but it is difficult to have a comprehensive overview of it. Andrea Francolino (Bari, 1979) reflects on the contemporary everyday. Eco-sustainability is his guide; a utopia towards which the artist strives. He analyses the depersonalised and concreted contemporaneity, shedding light on all the fragilities of humankind. He has collected the wounds of the soil. Concrete and asphalt, materials of the contemporary age, emblems of socio-economic and technical-industrial development, “conceived” as enduring and solid, themselves reveal the inevitable passing of time. While covering the route between his studio and the exhibition location, he has conceived seven works in a potentially infinite series.Using concrete dust he has “harvested” and “traced” – in negative – the essence and the form of seven “cracks" in the road encountered on his route.Metaphors of fragility like the dusts used and then transferred, impressed on paper. Each work bears a date, a time and satellite coordinates that allow the precise space and time of his action to be identified. The coordinates are, in fact, the titles of the works and the observer may work their way back to the original location, while the real cracks transform with the passage of time.
Gaspare Luigi Marcone (Terlizzi, BA, 1983). Destruction, transformation and regeneration of culture and nature are some of the fundamental elements of Gaspare’s research. The work Untitled (2013-1983) is a 30-metre long, black linen thread (in 30 different examples) made when the artist turned 30.The work may be installed differently each time.A metaphor for the artist and, by extension, the versatility and metamorphosis of the human being within “time”; a natural fibre, used from the ancient Egyptians through to the contemporary world of fashion, reflecting on the "thread" of history and art as well as biology. To create poetry is to measure.

Cementi e asfalti, materiali dell’evo contemporaneo, emblemi dello sviluppo economico-sociale e tecnico-industriale, “pensati” come durevoli e solidi, rivelano anch’essi l’inevitabile trascorrere del tempo.
Gaspare Luigi Marcone (Terlizzi – BA – 1983).
